The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) today celebrated the substantial completion of the I-15 North Phase 3 project- a major infrastructure milestone that expands capacity, enhances freight mobility, and supports economic growth in Southern Nevada.
Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, representatives from Governor Joe Lombardo’s office, North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, Mayor Pro Tem Scott Black, Councilman Isaac Barron, and other local leaders gathered this morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony near I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard to mark the occasion. Representatives from Las Vegas Paving and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway were also in attendance, highlighting the strong community and industry partnerships behind the project.
The $83 million project widened a critical 10.7-mile stretch of I-15 between Speedway Boulevard and the Garnet Interchange from four to six lanes, adding much-needed capacity to one of the region’s most heavily traveled freight corridors.
“Widening our way forward means building infrastructure that works for today and for the future,” said NDOT Director Tracy Larkin-Thomason. “We’re proud to deliver a project that strengthens this essential corridor for the people and businesses of Nevada.”
Project Highlights:
- Widened I-15 from two to three lanes in each direction, with 12-foot shoulders
- Rehabilitated and widened bridges to meet modern standards
- Expanded truck parking and installed Weigh-in-Motion sensors for freight efficiency
- Upgraded drainage systems and installed 22 miles of desert tortoise fencing
- Added lighting and landscape enhancements to improve visibility and aesthetics
Since being designated a "Corridor of the Future" by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2007, I-15 has been the focus of strategic investment and modernization. NDOT’s ongoing work in the corridor reflects its importance: more than 92% of Southern Nevada’s goods are transported by truck, with much of that freight moving along this segment of I-15.
The I-15 North Phase 3 project broke ground in 2022 and supported hundreds of local jobs through design and construction. Dozens of Nevada-based firms contributed to its successful delivery.
