CARSON CITY, Nev. – Beginning overnight on Feb. 11, lanes will be shifted on northbound U.S. 395 as the Nevada Department of Transportation continues progress in a project to widen and improve U.S. 395 in the North Valleys.
• Northbound U.S. 395 lanes will be shifted to inside, newly-widened bridge decks from north of Parr Blvd to just south of Golden Valley Road. This shift will allow for continued construction on the outside widening of the Panther Valley and Virginia Street bridge structures.
• The newly-constructed bridges include more than 500,000 pounds of reinforcing steel and 3,300 cubic yards of concrete.
• Southbound U.S. 395 lanes will not change.
• Amid the new lane alignment, motorists are reminded to drive attentively and to slow to work zone speed limits.
• Motorists should anticipate increased daytime construction activity and continued, intermittent nighttime ramp closures throughout the work zone.
• Construction and lane shift schedules are subject to change, based on weather.
The work is part of continuing multi-year highway improvements to widen and repave approximately four miles of U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road.
Existing Lane and Ramp Closures
24/7 Lane Shifts and Speed Reductions
• Northbound U.S. 395 remains reduced to two lanes 24/7 from Parr/Dandini Boulevard to Golden Valley Road as sections of highway and bridges are removed and reconstructed, retaining walls built and other improvements made.
• Speeds are reduced to 55mph 24/7 through the work zone.
Lane and Ramp Closures
• Additional overnight lane closures continue, with highway lanes reduced to a minimum of one lane in each direction:
- Northbound U.S. 395: lanes reduced between 8 p.m. and 11 a.m.
- Southbound U.S. 395: lanes reduced between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
• Intermittent ramp closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday evenings through Saturday mornings. Detour routes will be marked.
• Virginia Street on-ramp to southbound U.S. 395 in Panther Valley is closed for construction.
With major construction scheduled to take place through mid-2026, NDOT is encouraging drivers to sign up for the following traffic alerts:
• Text “NorthValleys” to 866-540-8466 to sign up for construction text alerts.
• Visit 395NorthValleys.com for project information and updates.
The project will make the following improvements to enhance traffic mobility and safety on the heavily-traveled corridor:
• Add additional lane to southbound U.S. 395 between north McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road. This new lane will be constructed in the median of the southbound freeway.
• Construct additional merge (auxiliary) lanes between each freeway ramp in both directions of U.S. 395 between north McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road.
• Construct a “braided” freeway ramp along northbound U.S. 395 between the Panther Valley on-ramp and Golden Valley Road for safer, smoother traffic flow, similar to southbound I-580 ramps at Mill and Second streets.
• Repave both directions of U.S. 395 between north McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road.
• Construction of five new sound walls, retaining walls, and aesthetic elements highlighting the gateway to the City of Reno and roadside ground treatments such as native plantings and rock.
• Add paved shoulders of up to 12 feet to provide room for enhanced incident management and roadside response.
