Lane Reductions Begin March 1 as NDOT Launches Project to Resurface/Improve Pyramid Way in Sparks

Post Date:02/25/2026 12:18 PM
CARSON CITY, Nev. –   Beginning March 1, drivers will see work zones and overnight lane reductions on Pyramid Way in Sparks as the Nevada Department of Transportation launches a project to repave and reconstruct the road from Nugget Avenue to York Way.

The project will resurface the roadway and improve sidewalks and pedestrian crossings on Pyramid Way from Victorian Avenue to York Way.

The approximately $14 million improvement project by contractor Road and Highway Builders will improve Pyramid Way for the as many as 28,000 drivers who travel the road daily. The road was last fully repaved in 2010, with minor resurfacing in some areas more recently.
The following traffic restrictions will be in place through spring 2027. Active work zones will be approximately a quarter mile in length, with the following traffic restrictions in place:
• Both lanes will remain open in each direction during daytime hours.
• Lanes will be reduced to a minimum of one lane nightly between 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings.
• Lanes will be slightly reduced in width and shifted in the work zone 24/7.
• Speeds will be reduced through the work zone during construction hours.
• Drivers are advised to detour around the area when possible. Those who travel through the work zone can anticipate moderate travel delays during overnight hours.
• At least one access to each business will remain available during business hours.
• Pedestrian detours will periodically be in place, detouring pedestrian traffic to the opposite side of the road.
• Certain intersections and directions of traffic may briefly be closed for major construction, primarily during pre-planned major construction weekends. NDOT will provide advance notice of these periodic construction closures.
• Project construction schedules will be coordinated around local community events to reduce impact to major events.
• Overnight construction noise should be expected during active work.
• Construction schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.

The project will make the following improvements:

- Resurface both directions of Pyramid Way between Nugget Avenue and York Way. Varying by area, between two and 18 inches of roadbed will be removed and resurfaced.
- Over one mile of roadside sidewalk will be reconstructed for enhanced pedestrian safety and mobility.
- Roadside curbs and driveway and sidewalk ramps will be improved.
- New pedestrian-activated crossings signals will be installed at the intersections of D Street, F Street, L Street and Holman Way. Known as rapid rectangular flashing beacons, the signals allow pedestrians to activate crossing signals for traffic to stop.
- Roadside lighting will also be enhanced.
