Southbound U.S. 395 traffic shifts and overnight closures of Lemmon Drive underneath U.S. 395 will take place during the week of Aug. 31 as part of continuing Nevada Department of Transportation projects to widen and improve U.S. 395 in the North Valleys.

LEMMON DRIVE - OVERNIGHT CLOSURE UNDER U.S. 395

• Lemmon Drive will be closed to through traffic underneath U.S. 395 between Sky Vista Parkway/Buck Drive and North Virginia Street as crews install falsework for upcoming bridge widening.
• Closures will take place nightly between 9 p.m. - 5 a.m. (evening of Aug. 31 through the morning of Sept. 5). Lemmon Drive underneath U.S. 395 will be open during daytime hours.
• The northbound U.S. 395 off ramp to Lemmon Drive will also be periodically closed between 8 p.m. - 5 a.m. (evening of Aug. 31 through the morning of Sept. 5).  Other U.S. 395/Lemmon Drive freeway ramps will remain open, with no travel available underneath the highway.
• Detour routes will be available.
• The overnight closures were initially scheduled for the week of Aug. 24, but were postponed due to the Hawk Fire. NDOT will continue to monitor to ensure the closure does not interfere with fire-related traffic needs.

SOUTHBOUND U.S. 395 LANE SHIFTS

• Beginning overnight on Aug. 28, southbound U.S. 395 lanes will be shifted and divided from Golden Valley Road to North Virginia Street. These southbound lanes will loosely form a football shape, with lanes separated before joining together again in the Panther Valley area.

• This shift will help crews to tie in to new highway lanes, marking continued momentum toward finalizing paving.

• Drivers wishing to take the southbound U.S. 395 off ramp to Business U.S. 395/North Virginia Street should stay in the right-hand lane to exit. Southbound drivers will not be able to access North Virginia Street via the left lane.

• Construction schedule is subject to change.

CONTINUING HIGHWAY LANE REDUCTIONS

The work is part of projects to widen U.S. 395 to three lanes in each direction. Drivers will see the following continuing overnight lane reductions and ramp closures on U.S. 395 between north McCarran Boulevard and Stead Boulevard.

• Periodic lane shifts throughout construction.
• Overnight highway lane reductions, with U.S. 395 reduced to one lane in each direction 8 p.m. - 5 a.m.
• Intermittent ramp closures 8 p.m. - 5 a.m. Detour routes will be marked.
• Speeds reduced to 55mph 24/7 through the work zone.
• Lanes periodically reduced on Lemmon Drive and Golden Valley Road underneath U.S. 395
• Construction schedule is subject to change.

This second phase of North Valleys improvements launched on July 13, continuing highway improvements northward to widen and improve U.S. 395 between Golden Valley Road and Stead Boulevard.

With phase two construction scheduled to take place through early 2028, NDOT is encouraging drivers to sign up for traffic alerts:

Traffic volumes have increased from 45,000 per day in 2014 to 50,000 vehicles per day in 2025. The project will complete the multi-phase improvements to enhance traffic mobility and safety for the ever-growing North Valleys.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

• Add additional lanes to U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Stead Boulevard.
• Add designated merging (auxiliary) lanes between freeway ramps.
• Install new traffic signal system at Golden Valley Road interchange to replace the existing temporary signal system. The interchange will also be realigned, with two lanes to access southbound U.S. 395.
• Rehabilitate pavement on U.S. 395 in both directions between North McCarran Boulevard and Stead Boulevard.
• Construction of sound walls, retaining walls, lighting and intelligent transportation system upgrades and striping, roadside signs, landscape and aesthetic and drainage improvements.
• Wider highway shoulders will provide additional safety as well as room for enhanced incident management and roadside response.
