With well over half of a million rides provided each year by Nevada’s rural transit operators, the Nevada Department of Transportation is inviting public input on an update to the State Management Plan. The plan defines how federal transit funding is administered statewide for transit operators to provide much-needed services across rural areas of the state.

Each year, NDOT utilizes Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds to support rural transit operations. The services are operated throughout Nevada, connecting the general public, including older adults, individuals with disabilities and veterans, to employment, healthcare, education, shopping, and other essential destinations.

The State Management Plan (SMP) outlines the objectives and policies by which FTA funds are administered to Nevada’s public, tribal and private passenger transit agencies. The plan is reviewed and updated as needed to ensure funding is administered in accordance with federal regulations and program requirements.

The plan is available for review and comment by visiting dot.nv.gov and selecting the “Transit” and “Transit Plans” link under the “Mobility” tab (Transit Plans and Resources | Nevada Department of Transportation).

Comments can be made via transitteam@dot.nv.gov or (775) 888-7215 by September 30, 2026. Feedback should be related to administration of funds defined in the plan and not specific transit services.

“Rural transportation services help our fellow Nevadans access employment, healthcare, shopping, education, public services, and recreation,” NDOT Transit Manager Laurel Brock-Kline explained. “Public and stakeholder input on this plan will help ensure that together we meet the transit needs of Nevada’s rural communities.”
