Preserving Nevada's Waters for Future Generations
Here in Nevada, our surface and groundwater resources are precious commodities. Stormwater has the potential to carry pollutants from state road right of way into Nevada's water bodies. That's why NDOT, under our stormwater management program, works closely with other agencies to help preserve clarity and reduce pollution in the stormwater and other water runoff from our roads and road projects.
Whether diligently reducing the amount of water quality impacts from our construction projects, installing water detention systems to most efficiently channel and provide for the clarity of roadside runoff, utilizing advanced technology to reduce the amount of salt and sand used on snowy and icy winter roads, or even building award-winning facilities to treat water runoff collected during cleaning of Tahoe-area roadside drainage facilities that will save an estimated $4 million during the next 20 years, NDOT is dedicated to best stormwater management practices.
Maintaining a Stormwater Management Plan for the Department and meeting or exceeding the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit is the priority goal of NDOT's Stormwater Division.
