Home MenuBicycle and Pedestrian Board
The Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board was created through Senate Bill 475 during the 2011 Nevada Legislature. The Bill, now state law located in NRS 408.570, 573, and 577 establishes general guidelines for its makeup, its mission, and its purpose. Its mission is broadly defined as:
Promote programs and facilities for the safe use of bicycles and pedestrian safety in this State.
Its purpose is broadly defined as:
Advise appropriate agencies of the State on policies, programs, and facilities for the safe use of bicycles and pedestrian safety.
In essence, the Board has a dual role of promoting safety and getting people outside enjoying biking and walking/hiking.
The Board is made up of 14 members appointed by the Governor from various professions, backgrounds, and locations throughout the state. The legislation (aka “statute”) mandates that seven of the members be representatives from specific state agencies, and the remaining seven are either representative of specific interest groups related to bicycle and pedestrian issues or from the public at-large. For more information on these specifics, or if you are interested in becoming a Board member, please click here.
The Board is not an official part of the Department of Transportation, as it provides advisory functions to all state agencies. However, NDOT does provide the board with secretarial and coordination services.
Common duties of the Board include reviewing and making recommendations on proposed bike and pedestrian infrastructure, such as bike lanes or walking paths, as well as providing input and recommendations on proposed legislation related to bike and pedestrian safety.

You’re invited to participate in the next Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board meeting! Included in its purpose is to act as a voice for residents to state and local decision-makers to provide valuable input in the planning and approval processes of development throughout Nevada.
The Board typically meets through Microsoft Teams every two months at 8:30 a.m., on the 3rd Thursday of every odd month. In addition, for those without internet access, space is provided at NDOT offices, 1263 S. Stewart St. in Carson City to watch and participate through Teams (the Board members themselves do not all meet at the same physical location). Exact meetings dates, with agendas and backup materials, are posted here on this website approximately one week prior to each meeting.
Members of the public wishing to speak to the Board may do so during the Public Comment portion of the agenda and are given 5 minutes each to speak.
The next meeting is scheduled for January 15, 2026.
