I-15 South Corridor: Via Nobila Interchange
Project Background
In 2008, an Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared for the I-15 South Corridor Improvement Project,
addressing the environmental effects of improvements along the I-15 corridor, including a portion of Las Vegas
Boulevard South, between Sloan Road and Tropicana Avenue. A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONS!) for the
overall project was approved by the Federal Highway Administration on April 20, 2009. In 2022, a reevaluation of
the I-15 South EA and FONSI was done to consider changing conditions and new issues that have transpired over
the last several years within the I-15 South project area.
I-15 South Corridor Improvement Project EA 2008
Project Overview
The Project is located on Interstate 15 (I-15) in Clark County, Nevada, and will consist of providing access to
the Inspirada Master Planned Community located in West Henderson, Nevada, east of the I-15. The Project
will include construction of a new interchange and extension of Via Nobila, west of Las Vegas Boulevard.
The DEPARTMENT intends to utilize a Design-Bid-Build (DBB) method for delivery of this Project. This
Project is a phase of the I-15 South Corridor and a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Re-Evaluation
for this phase will be completed by the DEPARTMENT’s Environmental Division.
Project Purpose and Need
The project is to provide a grade separated interchange along I-15 at Via Nobila that currently terminates at
Las Vegas Boulevard. The secondary purpose of the project is to widen I-15 to alleviate traffic congestion
along I-15 and accommodate the proposed High-Speed Rail along the median. There were three interchange
alternatives studied to determine the most efficient system. Those included a tight diamond interchange,
single point urban interchange and a diverging diamond interchange.
The diverging diamond interchange was selected because of cost and traffic flow efficiency as depicted in
the following figure:
Funding
The total projected cost for construction is $100M. The project is paid for with 95% federal and 5% state funds. Funding sources include National Highway Performance Program (NHPP), Bridge Formula Program (BFP), and State match funding.
Schedule
The project is currently progressing towards final design completion. Below is a general overview of the
design and construction schedule. The schedule is subject to change.
Final Design Completion: November 2028
Start Construction Phase: Q1 2029
Construction Phase Completion: Q1 2031
