Nevada’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) is a statewide safety plan and framework for reducing fatalities and serious injuries on Nevada’s roadways. The SHSP establishes goals and strategies developed in collaboration with federal, state, local, and private-sector safety stakeholders. The SHSP is updated every five years. The SHSP Action Plan is a supplemental document to the SHSP, and identifies the specific action steps and output measures for strategies within the SHSP. The Action Plan is updated annually, or as action steps are completed.

For the 2026-2030 Strategic Highway Safety Plan, five Strategy Areas were established to guide coordinated implementation efforts: Safer People, Safer Roads, Safer Vehicles, Safer Speeds, and Post-Crash Care. A dedicated task force was established for each Strategy Area to foster collaboration, support implementation, and monitor progress on adopted strategies and action steps.
In addition, eight focused task forces Human Factors, Impaired Driving, Intersections, Lane Departures, Post-Crash/Emergency Services, Rural and Tribal Communities, Safer Speeds, and Vulnerable Road Users have developed targeted strategies and action steps to address Nevada's most critical safety challenges and advance measurable outcomes statewide.
